Winter Championships Enrty CANCELLED
As many of you will have seen the entry to the RS Feva Winter Championships has remained very low, much lower than we would have expected after the very positive response we received from the survey sent out.
While it was our intention to continue with the event despite the low numbers we have been contacted by teams who now have to self isolate due to being in contact with Covid 19. The loss of these teams will make for a big impact on the numbers. We realise that we still have a day to go before entry closes so we have liaised with many regulars who are not yet on the entry list to ask for reasons behind not entering. From our conversations, we understand that other commitments to training, exam revision and now weather concerns are some of the factors preventing more to enter. We then have additional issues relating to not being able to share lifts and accommodation. We have also consulted with a cross-section of the teams entered to understand how people feel about travelling to compete in such a small fleet and feelings are very mixed. For all these reasons it is with great sadness that we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel this weekend's RS Feva Winter Championships.
Our thanks must go to you all for your tremendous support, not only for entering this event but also to those who offered to help with the various volunteer roles this weekend. It has been a truly horrific year and we so hoped that we could try and end on a high.
We must also thank the team at WPNSA specifically Peter Allam and Sally Reynoldson who’s dedication, support has allowed us to keep the dream of hosting our events alive this year. We joke about being on Plan E, F and G with the number of reschedules we have had to do but, in reality, this was actually the case and the work does not simply start at the event its self, the hours and hours of preparation behind the scenes is enormous! It is fair to say that Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy is run by such a dedicated team who along with their army of volunteers make our WPNSA sailing events the best you will attend, and for this, we thank them all.
Please all keep safe, have a wonderful Christmas and I hope to see many of you at the Spring Championships at Hayling Island Sailing Club in March 2021.
