Burnham Open
Write-up
Last weekend saw 12 boats come to the line for the 3rd Feva Open at the Burnham SC. A sunny but boisterous day with gusts of 30knots from the SSW being recorded at the committee boat masthead. John Hardy, the Race Officer laid a simple windward/leeward course up and down the tide and most of the crews completed two races before lunch all showing some outstanding boat control in very tough conditions but with the wind still building and the tide running faster the decision was made not to re-launch and to abandon for the day. Leading overnight with two firsts were Chay & Stirling (team taylor) with Flynn Davies and Daniel Lewis, and Kathryn H.P. with Matt Jaysekera close behind.
Sunday saw ideal sailing conditions with less wind but more from a southerly direction making the course across the tide and it more difficult to judge those laylines on the important tacks but with the bonus of a fast reach back to the leeward end under kites. With the downwind buoy just off the pontoon outside the clubhouse parents were able to enjoy the chance for some close up photos and see the action.
Although unable to win a race on Saturday, James H. P. with Tom Jaysekara won 3 out of 4, the Taylors maintained their lead overall to win the newly presented trophy donated by the RSPB with the other 3 local boats not far behind and all sailors picking up prizes kindly donated once again by the sponsors, sailmakers hyde sails and local boat bits suppliers pro boat. Thanks to the sponsors and all who helped on the day.
