Grand Prix 2 – Hayling Island
Saturday morning was a bustling day of registration, with 45 boats entered for the GP. After a morning briefing from the Race Officer David Nicholls, sailors launched to head out to the racecourse. We were fortunate to enjoy warm autumn sunshine and a steady breeze!
The tide played a significant role, as sailors left the weekend with insights on how 4 knots of tide can impact their racing strategies.
Race One – The first race was clinched by brothers Oliver and Will Stratton-Brown from Frensham Pond SC.
Race Two – Ed Stubbs and Ollie Wilson of Lyme Regis SC took home 1st place.
Race Three – Another win for Frensham Pond, as Zoe Lomas-Clarke and Mark Soars finished first.
Race Four – The final race of the day saw visiting competitors from the Netherlands, Doeke van Surksum and Sven van Dartel, secure 1st place.
As Saturday evening approached, the decision was made to cancel Sunday’s racing due to the strong winds forecast by Storm Ashley arriving in early hours on Sunday morning. Sailors and parents gathered for a social event at the club, featuring an evening prize-giving ceremony followed by our AGM.
A heartfelt thank you to Hayling Island Sailing Club for hosting our Grand Prix and to their dedicated volunteers. We also extend our gratitude to our sponsors, Rooster X Wuka and Coastwatersports, for their invaluable support of the Series.
