The start of the Nationals saw excited sailors itching to get out on the water and start racing. With light winds sailors had to stay focused. After the first race, the course had to be moved and reset due to the lack of wind, in order to complete a further two races. The sailors had a long day on the water in some shifty conditions. At the end of day one Tristan Ahlheid and Finlay Lomas-Clarke from Frensham Pond were in the lead. Followed by two teams on joint points, Ben Greenhalgh and Tom Sinfield from Port Dinorwic Sailing Club and father and son team Bruce and Joel Keen from Stokes Bay.
