The South and South/West Regional Champs took place over a windy weekend at WPNSA. This was an RYA Regional Training Group indicator event for which 18 teams entered. 

 

A forecast of 30+ Knts loomed for Sunday and an early decision was taken by the race team to run 4 of the 6 scheduled races on the Saturday, rather than 3, incase it was too windy to race at all on the Sunday.

 

The 4 races were completed on the saturday in winds in the high teens.

 

Sunday dawned and the winds werent as strong as forecast. The race team went out to the race area and recorded winds of 15-17 knts. The decision to ‘go’ was made!  Once the boats had launched the wind really started to ramp up with gusts coming through in the mid twenties.

 

In gusts recorded at nearly 32knts the two races were completed, there were a few retirements, but everyone went out and did their best!
